De -Tanning Hacks For The Summer

The hot summer months can be punishing to your skin, hence special care is required during summers. Prolonged exposure to the sun leads to skin burn or tan. Though sunscreen is one of the best ways to protect your skin, but scorching heat still manages to damage your skin.


How Tanning Happens?

The sun rays contain two types of ultraviolet radiation that reach your skin:
1. UVB causes sunburns
2. UVA causes tanning

UVA penetrates to the lower level of the skin and produces melanin. Melanin is the brown pigment that causes tanning and makes your skin look dull.

Remedies to get rid of the ugly tan


Though one of the most easiest ways to overcome tanning is bleaching, but this chemical treatment can be harmful for your skin. And that's why you must try some natural, harm-free home remedies. 


Here are some tips for you to make you feel protected when you are out in Sun heat.

1. Potatoes:


Phytochemicals in potato juice work as cleansers and helps in removing dead and dry skin cells from the skin surface. It replenishes your skin and restore your natural complexion.

How to apply?


Apply potato juice directly on to your tanned skin for 15 mins and then wash thoroughly. For best results, apply daily. 

2. Honey and lemon juice:


Lemon contains alpha hydroxy acid which exfoliates the upper layer of the skin and removes the tan.  Honey contains polyphenols which aids lighten the tan. It also has antibacterial and antioxidant properties which when mixed with lemon juice can help your skin glow.

How to apply?

Mix 2 tablespoons of honey with few drops of lemon and apply it on affected areas. Let it dry and wash it off with some cold water.

3. Papaya:

Papaya works as a good exfoliate and helps in removing dead skin from the skin surface. It replenishes your skin and restore natural skin tone.


How to apply?

Prepare a puree of papaya in a blender. Add lemon juice to the puree and apply it on the tanned skin for 10 -15 mins. Rinse thoroughly.

4. Turmeric pack:

Curcumin, the main active ingredient of turmeric, is known to curb melanogenesis. This helps in reducing excessive pigmentation and reviving dull skin.

Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder with lemon juice and raw milk. Apply the mixture on the affected area and wait till it dries. Wash it off with cold water.

5. Tomato: 

Being rich in phytochemicals, aids lighten the tan and restore your natural skin tone.

How to apply?

Make a paste of a tomato. Mix it with 2 teaspoons of lemon. Apply it generously on the affected areas. Let it dry for 15 mins and rinse it off with tap water.
